Hibiscus Tea combines with cinnamon and clove to make a holiday inspired syrup you can use in cocktails and mocktails of any kind.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup of water

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 tsp whole clove

  • 1 heaping tbsp loose leaf hibiscus berry tea (or 3 tea bags))

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • ¼ cup honey

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan simmer water, cinnamon sticks, and cloves for 8 minutes.

  2. Turn off heat and add hibiscus tea to the pan. Cover and and allow it to steep for 5 minutes.

  3. Strain hot mixture over 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup of honey. Stir until honey and sugar are dissolved.

  4. Allow to cool in the fridge, and transfer to container of your choosing.

Tip:

It is best to use a loose leaf tea if you can find it, though it’s not easy. We find loose leaf brings out a stronger flavor and also a more vibrant color.

We typically end up using a hibiscus berry tea which tends to be the most available in the super markets. The berry flavor is subtle and doesn’t take away from the hibiscus at all. Because of the cinnamon and clove in this syrup, using a a very specific and high quality tea is not necessary.
