Negroni Series
✨Traditional Negroni✨
It’s Negroni week! We’ve got treats for you – a few extra negroni recipes throughout the week for you to enjoy! The Negroni supposedly was created by a member of the Negroni family asking the bartender to strengthen the Americano by adding gin, rather than the normal soda water. The bartender also added an orange garnish rather than the typical lemon garnish used in an Americano. After the success of the cocktail, the Negroni family then formed a Distillery in Treviso, Italy to produce a ready made version of the drink. We’ll start with the traditional, made with equal parts gin, Campari, and Sweet Vermouth. Though a growing number of Negroni aficionados prescribe to using more gin, and prefer 1 ½ (some even 2) parts gin to 1 part of Campari and Vermouth. We recommend you give it a try and use the ratios you like, there’s no wrong way to make a cocktail! We’ve used @bostonharbordistil’s Lawley’s Gin - a delicious base for this one.
Ingredients:
1 oz Gin (try 1 ½ oz and see how you like it)
1 oz Campari
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
Orange Slide or Peel
Directions:
1. Pour each ingredient into a rocks glass over ice or an ice ball
2. Stir the ingredients together with a bar spoon
3. Garnish with orange slice or peel
4. Sip & Enjoy!
Now that you have the basics you can make all sorts of variations. A Negroni is at its core a marriage of sweet and bitter combining a spirit, aperitif (the bitter) and fortified wine (the sweet). Here are some example of those ingredients that you can mix and match till your heart’s content.
Spirits: Gin, vodka, whiskey, Prosecco
Aperifit: Amaro, Fernet, Aperol
Fortified Wine: Vermouth, Sherry, Lillet
✨Negroni Sbagliato✨
Next up, is our Negroni Sbagliato. ‘Sbagliato’ means ‘broken’ or ‘mistaken’ in Italian, and this version of the Negroni incorporates Processo instead of gin. It’s bitter, but then also sweet and bubbly, mixing up the original version of this cocktail. We love bubbles, you love bubbles, give this a try! We also mix this up and use a @crateandbarrel nick and nora glass up to mixx it up ;) ! ✨
Ingredients:
1 oz Campari
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
2 oz Prosecco
Directions:
1. Add Campari and Sweet Vermouth to a cocktail shaker with ice. Use a stirrer to stir together and chill.
2. Strain into a small coupe or Nick & Nora glass
3. Top with approximately 2oz of Prosecco
4. Garnish with a dried lemon slice
5. Sip & Enjoy!
✨White Negroni✨
Last up, is our white negroni. This negroni riff uses Lillet blanc which is a spirit we truly love, and a different mix on this traditional cocktail.
