The Jay Peak
Skiing is one of New England’s greatest winter pleasures. While we don’t always love the cold temperatures we have up here in New England, skiing is a way to make some fun out of it. And, the best part of a great ski day is of course the Après Skiing.
Specifically one of our favorite mountains to go to is Jay Peak, Vermont. It is almost in Canada and quite a drive, but the mountain is spectacular with great ski trails.
During our trips to Vermont, we’ve worked on a variety of different cocktails. After a long day of skiing, there’s nothing you want more than a delicious, balanced cocktail. We’ve perfected this one to be one hell of an après ski cocktail. Featuring maple syrup to really get that Vermont-iness going. We shake it with fresh thyme to add some herbal notes as well. Mix it up by the fireplace and you are sure to have a great post-ski evening.
Some tips and tricks:
Fresh thyme varies in flavor potently so taste your cocktail before straining and add another sprig and shake again if the they’re hasn’t come through.
You can substitute dried thyme for fresh in a pinch. Use about a 1/4 teaspoon and double strain the cocktail to remove all the herb bits.
Give the thyme a quick rub between your plans to bring out the oils before putting in the shaker to mix. This will help bring out the fresh thyme flavor.
