The Jay Peak

Skiing is one of New England’s greatest winter pleasures. While we don’t always love the cold temperatures we have up here in New England, skiing is a way to make some fun out of it. And, the best part of a great ski day is of course the Après Skiing.

Specifically one of our favorite mountains to go to is Jay Peak, Vermont. It is almost in Canada and quite a drive, but the mountain is spectacular with great ski trails.

During our trips to Vermont, we’ve worked on a variety of different cocktails. After a long day of skiing, there’s nothing you want more than a delicious, balanced cocktail. We’ve perfected this one to be one hell of an après ski cocktail. Featuring maple syrup to really get that Vermont-iness going. We shake it with fresh thyme to add some herbal notes as well. Mix it up by the fireplace and you are sure to have a great post-ski evening.

Some tips and tricks:

  • Fresh thyme varies in flavor potently so taste your cocktail before straining and add another sprig and shake again if the they’re hasn’t come through.

  • You can substitute dried thyme for fresh in a pinch. Use about a 1/4 teaspoon and double strain the cocktail to remove all the herb bits.

  • Give the thyme a quick rub between your plans to bring out the oils before putting in the shaker to mix. This will help bring out the fresh thyme flavor.
